Wiltonians opened their hearts to children in need of a smile this holiday season, as donations to Toys for Tots were brisk.

Henry Norley, area coordinator for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, said that as many as 30,000 toys were collected in the region he serves, including Wilton.

“Wilton went above and beyond this year,” Mr. Norley said.

Brian Elliott, fire service and basic life support instructor with the Wilton Fire Department, said they had roughly 700 toys donated to their drop box. Mr. Norley said he recalled gathering over 700 at Middlebrook School as well.

Members of the Marine Corps, along with Mr. Norley and local businesses, participated in the toy drop at Devan Chevrolet Buick of Wilton on Danbury Road.

Mr. Norley said that the project is one that is rewarding for everyone involved.

“It’s great,” he added. “It’s nice to hear the stories.

“There are a lot of happy kids out there right now.”
