The Wilton Conservation Commission held its annual Townwide Community Cleanup this past Saturday. More than 60 volunteers braved the cold weather to pick up litter around Wilton’s roads and the banks of the Norwalk River. Snow showers didn’t stop these spirited Wiltonians from collecting a total of 3,140 pounds of litter, filling an entire Dumpster. Pinnochio Pizza again supported the event by offering free pizza for the participants.
The volunteers made a tremendous impact in cleaning up the town but there is still more work to be done, Mike Conklin of Wilton’s environmental affairs department said. The Conservation Commission is asking residents to take a garbage bag along on their spring walks and pick up litter in their own neighborhoods. Free garbage bags and work gloves are still available through the office of the Conservation Commission in the town hall annex which is open Monday through Friday, from 8 to 4.
