Teens help organize annual Trackside golf tournament

Trackside Teen Center held it’s fifth annual golf tournament at Oak Hills Park on June 16. This year’s tournament sponsor was Wilton Center Family Dentistry and Dr. James T Aris.

“I am a proud supporter of  the teen center of Wilton” Dr. Aris said.  “Trackside is a great part of the community providing a safe environment for teen and youth programming.”

This year, the teen center tournament was put together by four Wilton High School students doing their senior internship at Trackside. The internship program allows seniors to pick a participating business or organization to work with over a five-week period. This year’s Trackside interns were Jack Armstrong, Ryan Murphy, JJ Jeffries, and Ken Pokora. The interns worked with the golf pro at Oak Hills; went into the community to solicit sponsorships; designed, created and installed tee signs and developed the brochure that was distributed to all the golfers.

“It is a great experience for these seniors to be able to put together an entire tournament, learn accounting and financial procedures, and gain experience approaching business and pitching their sales,” said Mark Ketley, Trackside executive director. “We look forward every year to the internship program. This year’s group was outstanding.”

Cindy Moser and Dave Heiden were leading sponsors along with Bankwell of Wilton, Realty Seven, Symmetry and Fairfield County Bank.
