Snow knocks out some power; causes cancellations and delays

Update: 9:50 a.m. — Here are some area snow totals from the National Weather Service taken between 4 and 7 a.m. this morning:

Danbury — 10 inches

Newtown — 9.4 inches

New Canaan — 8.8 inches

Norwalk — 7.8 inches

Bridgeport — 6 inches

Update: 9:20 a.m. — Weir Farm is closed today.

Looks like everyone has power back.

About 6 to 7 inches of snow in Wilton.

Update 8:40 a.m. — Metro-North announces five- to 10-minute delays in both directions on the New Haven line.

Wilton power outages down to four.

Scoops will open at noon today.

7 a.m. — Eight or so inches of snow have fallen in Wilton and more is expected.

Wilton schools are closed.

The Wilton Family Y is open but all morning programs — nursery school, Neighborhood Club, Kindergarten Enrichment, Child Watch, Student Union and babysitting — are canceled. All group fitness classes before 11 are canceled. No decision yet on afternoon classes. The 50M pool is closed but the 25Y pool is open.

CL&P reports 45 outages in Wilton.

Metro-North reports good service on New Haven and Danbury branch lines as well as the Harlem line.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect through noon, however, snow is expected to continue through 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Winds will be from the north at 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. One to three more inches of snow is possible.

Skies will clear gradually overnight with Saturday expected to be sunny with a high near 45 degrees.
