Sixth grader raises $530 for food pantry

What began as 11-year-old Alexis Capelle’s Christmas wish led to an online fund-raiser and culminated in the donation of a $530 check to the Wilton Interfaith Food Pantry last week.

In addition to the check, Alexis presented $50 worth of groceries and household items to Lauren Hughes, senior services coordinator and overseer of the food pantry.

Alexis, a sixth grader at Middlebrook School, said she felt so much support and received a lot of nice emails from people in the community.

“The generosity of the community was amazing,” she said. “I was surprised by the number of donations.”

While at the food pantry last week, Alexis said, she noticed a need for coffee, laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid and paper products, as well as toiletries.

Alexis said she really enjoys helping others and making a difference.

“I want other kids to know that they can do the same,” she said. “We can make things happen.”
