Police: Derby man in critical condition after Bridgeport shooting

BRIDGEPORT — A Derby man was in critical condition at the hospital late Thursday night after a shooting in the parking lot of a local auto repair shop, according to police officials.

While police on Thursday night initially said the shooting was reported at a McDonald’s restaurant at 250 North Ave., Capt. Kevin Gilleran clarified in an update late Thursday night that it happened in the parking lot of the nearby AutoZone at 300 North Ave.

Gilleran said police were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. He said officers found a 27-year-old Derby man who had been shot multiple times in the arm and abdomen.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition late Thursday night.

As of 10 p.m., the crime scene at 300 North Ave. had been processed and cleared. Streets shut down in the area for the investigation reopened around that same time.

The investigation by the Detective Bureau is ongoing.
