Shiny candle holders for children

In time for the holidays, children ages 6 to 12 may use paint and water to make shiny mercury glass votive candle holders. The workshop takes place Saturday, Dec. 3, from 11 to 12:30, at Wilton Historical Society, 224 Danbury Road.

While decorating their votives, Lola Chen, museum educator, will talk with the children about the origins of mercury glass, which was originally created as a replacement for sterling silver, and contains neither silver nor mercury.

The children’s second project will be to make their snack — cherries dipped in white chocolate, decorated with silver dragees.

The cost for members is $10/child, $25/family; non-members: $15/child, $35/family.
