A Wilton High School student was “gravely” injured Friday and has been hospitalized, the superintendent of schools wrote in a message to the school community.

“I am deeply saddened to share with you that earlier this evening we learned that one of our Wilton High School students was gravely injured and is currently hospitalized,” Superintendent of Schools Kevin Smith wrote. “We are unable to share additional details at this time but believe that many of our high school students and families may already be aware of the event and are naturally extremely upset.

“We keep this student and his family in our thoughts and prayers and are mobilizing to support all those in our school community who may be impacted by this event,” he wrote.

Smith wrote that school officials were planning how to provide support to the school community, and provided the 24-hour hotline number for Kids in Crisis, 203-661-1911. Counselors have been available throughout the weekend.

Wilton High experienced loss Sept. 21 when 16-year-old junior George DiRocco died suddenly, his death attributed to an undiagnosed heart condition.
