Roads are in hazardous condition, Halloween celebrations postponed

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the Town of Wilton has announced that Halloween celebrations are to be postponed until Friday, Nov. 9, until the roads are in safer condition.

As of 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, 6100 households are without power, which comprises 83% of the town. There are also major road hazards posed by fallen trees and wires.

A large tree that looms over Route 7, nearby Arrowhead Road, will require Route 7 to be closed around noon today, according to First Selectman Bill Brennan.

"It's a big tree and it's a big job," he said.

Wind gusts could get up to 25 mph today, which could knock over some trees or limbs that are hanging on wires or other trees.
