Rescue efforts are commended
Norwalk Fire Chief Denis McCarthy presented a letter of commendation to three members of Wilton Dive Rescue, the police and fire dive team.
'We acknowledge and appreciate the professional assistance from the Wilton Dive Team who responded side by side with our personnel," the letter read. The members assisted the Norwalk Fire Department for 24 hours during the height of Hurricane Sandy.
During the shift, members from Wilton Dive Rescue assisted in evacuating South Norwalk homes, securing the Island Belle ferry boat and performing water rescues including assisting an occupant trapped in a car submerged in water.
