Race assists police officer, medical research
The Wilton Newcomers Club will sponsor its first 5K Fund-raiser/1K Kids Run on Saturday, Dec. 8, 9 a.m., departing from Wilton Public Library.
The Wilton Newcomers Club is a nonprofit social club that serves families in Wilton, and raises money for local charitable organizations. This year, the club is organizing a 5K race to benefit the following:
• SMS Research Foundation, founded by Jennifer Iannuzzi of Wilton whose daughter was diagnosed with Smith-Magenis Syndrome.
• Wilton Police Officer Frank Razzaia who is undergoing stage 3 lymphoma treatments.
The money raised from this event will help these families off set medical costs and provide research to find a cure. The cost is $25 for the 5K run. There is no registration fee for the 1K Kids Run, but the club asks anyone participating to provide a toy that can be donated to Norwalk Hospital.
Runners may register at active.com through Friday, Dec. 6.
Local organizations supporting this event through food and beverage donations as well as timing equipment and T-shirts include: Kilometers, Stop & Shop, LA Fitness, John's Best, Steve's Bagels, and Fleur de Lis.
