Power is turned on for 1,200; about 40 roads still blocked

After a day where the priority was on power restoration, the Emergency Operations Center reports utility crews have restored power to approximately 1,200 Wilton customers, although the outage map on the CL&P website at 10 p.m. showed 5,343 customers without power, 72% of the town.

Utility crews from Wisconsin, Missouri, Nebraska and Quebec were among those working in town.

Crews from the town’s Department of Public Works got some help Thursday in clearing roads from the U.S. Forest Service. Twenty “chain saw workers” from Minnesota helped cut and clear trees. About 40 Wilton roads still have significant blockages, the EOC said.

The Wilton Transfer Station still has no power and is still closed to commercial haulers. Officials are working on a location for people to bring tree branches and other storm debris.

All the bottled water available Thursday was handed out; more water from the state has been requested. Bulk water is available from fire headquarters on Route 7 and the Wilton Y. You must bring your own containers.
