Boys State is a leadership program that teaches young men how basic government works. This year's dates are Saturday, June 23 to Thursday, June 28. Applications should be sent as soon as possible, no later than June 8. To be eligible, a student must complete their junior year in high school in 2018. The American Legion Auxiliary also sponsors a Girls State, similar to Boys State. For any girl finishing her junior year in High school in 2018, call Rebecca Terriciano at 860-538-1435 for more information.

The post also sponsors the State Police Youth Week in Connecticut, which will be held Sunday, July 8 to Saturday July 14. This program is also for boys and girls who will complete their junior year in 2018. Applications are due no later than April 23, but space is limited, so early applications are encouraged. Post 86 will pay the fee for attending.
