Nonprofits may register for 'giving day'

Wilton nonprofit organizations have until Feb. 13 to register for participation in the second annual Fairfield County Giving Day. Set for March 5, Giving Day is a 24-hour period of online donations (through FCGives.org) that aims to raise $1 million for local nonprofits.

Nonprofits may register at FCGives.org.

Wilton nonprofits registered to date include: A Better Chance of Wilton, Inc.; Connecticut Appleseed Center for Law & Justice, Inc.; Friends of Ambler Farm; Friends of the Norwalk River Valley Trail; Stay at Home in Wilton, Inc.; Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County; Wilton Historical Society; and Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

On last year’s Giving Day, 9,211 online donors gave more than $620,000 to 267 Fairfield County nonprofits in 24 hours. An additional $127,500 in cash prizes funded by the foundation, lead sponsor Bank of America and other corporate and community sponsors were awarded to more than 50 nonprofits.

All combined, the 2014 Fairfield County Giving Day raised $750,000. Bank of America is serving as lead sponsor again this year.

Anyone with a credit/debit card and Internet access may contribute; the minimum donation is $10. Matching funds and sponsor-contributed cash prizes amplify charitable donations, ignite spirited competition, and build momentum throughout the 24 hours.
