Ms. President U.S.

Although girls and women make up more than half of the U.S. population, only one in five members of Congress is female. Ms. President U.S. is a girls’ civic leadership program that seeks to change that.

Girls entering fourth to eighth grade are invited to enroll in the program that introduces them to women and female students who are leaders at the local, state and national level. Girls in the program contribute to the discussions and participate in enjoyable, interactive activities that help them develop their own civic leadership skills. The program culminates in a campaign and election where all the girls are encouraged to "run for office" themselves — the winner is recognized by their town's top official and acts as their town’s Ms. President U.S. for a year.

High school girls with leadership experience serve as mentors throughout the program.

The group meets in Ridgefield for eight sessions, October to April, and girls from Wilton are welcome to enroll. There is an all-day field trip to the state Capitol, and a campaign and election event at The Ridgefield Playhouse.
