Milford FD: Units responded to several incidents during Charles Island Music Festival

MILFORD — Area firefighters responded to several incidents on the waters off Charles Island during the second Charles Island Music Festival over the weekend.

Officials said more than 600 watercraft converged off the Milford shoreline near Silver Sands State Park and Charles Island, prompting city fire crews to staff three marine units for the festival.

City police as well as Stratford and Bridgeport fire crews also helped out at the event, Milford fire officials said.

The marine units responded to a boat that sank, another that crashed and left eight people injured, a grill fire on a third boat and numerous medical emergencies. Fire officials said one of those emergencies was a “serious trauma accident,” but would not further expand on what that incident was.

Marine units also helped swimmers and others in the water when they became distressed, officials said.
