Patrons calling Wilton Library, beginning today, Jan. 29, will be able to direct dial the service desks they wish to reach. That’s because the library is replacing its phone system.
While the main telephone number will remain 203-762-3950, there will be direct dial numbers:

  • Circulation Desk — 203-762-6334;

  • Children’s Library — 203-762-6336;

  • Teen Services — 203-762-6342;

  • Reference Desk— 203-762-6350.

Additional department and employee numbers will be available on the library’s website at www.wiltonlibrary.org, under the “About” tab at “Contact Us,” and through the auto-attendant on the phone system on Friday.
The library’s old phone system had reached the end of its lifecycle, said Mary Anne Franco, assistant director, technology and training,
“and it is no longer supported by the vendor, which means that parts are no longer available.”
Elaine Tai-Lauria, executive director for the library noted that a few weeks ago there was a glitch in the system underscoring that the time had come for the new equipment, which was already on order, to be put in place.
“Our maintenance agreement comes to an end on Jan. 31, so we drained every last drop out of the current one. Because this is a large expense for the library, we had to plan and save for it over the past three years. We were relieved when we were able to resuscitate the old system and keep it going for as long as we did,” she said.
