Library gala was a ‘wonderland’
Guests knew things were going to be an experience when they entered Silver Spring Country Club and immediately saw an array of oversized technicolored flowers for Wilton Library’s Spring Benefit on Saturday, April 1. From Alice in Wonderland to the Cheshire Cat, from the Mad Hatter to Humpty Dumpty, each table was festooned with a delightful character from the iconic book, providing a wonderful experience for those who attended the important annual fund-raiser for the library.
The highlight of the evening was recognizing the Village Market as a town institution and a wonderful supporter of the Wilton Library. From helping the library with its building expansion in 2003 by being the first on board to the 17 years of sponsoring the library’s Summer Music & More Concerts Series, a favorite community event held each July, the Village Market has continued to be such good friends of the library. Honored at the event were former owner Peter Keating, Tim Dolnier and Mike Picheco, co-owners and presidents, and Nancy Dolnier, vice president and general manager.
With a silent auction that provided all sorts of sports, entertainment, relaxation and dining experiences to an engaging live auction with auctioneer and comedian Tim Washer offering vacations, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Today Show, and a Boston weekend with a Red Sox/Yankees game, the evening was deemed a delight by more than 200 attendees.
Robin Axness, development director for the library remarked, “Although the final numbers aren’t in, thanks to the generosity of those who participated, it was a successful event for the library in a year when fundraising is going to be of utmost importance.”
The evening would not be possible without the help and support of the sponsors which included the Amadeo Family, the Davatzes Family, Fairfield County Bank, Lynne and Paul Vanderslice, Michael P. Kaelin/Cummings & Lockwood, LLC, General Electric Company, Gregory and Adams, PC, Orem’s Diner and media sponsor Wilton Magazine. Photography was provided courtesy of Peggy Garbus. The benefit committee chairs were Michele Ferguson Nichols and Kristin Johnson, with decorations created by Betsy Huffman and flower arrangements by Michele Klink.
