Jazz duo at Wilton Library

Jazz musicians Harvie S and Kenny Barron will share the stage Friday evening, Feb. 7,  for Wilton Library’s Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room. The performance begins at 7:30.

Bassist, composer, bandleader, arranger and educator Harvie S has graced the Brubeck Room stage on three previous occasions, and this will be jazz pianist Kenny Barron’s first time here.

Harvie S has been an integral part of the jazz scene since the 1970s and has appeared on hundreds of recordings with famous artists including pianist Steve Kuhn, vocalist Sheila Jordan, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, as well as with his own varied ensembles. A national and international musician, Harvie S was selected to be a jazz ambassador for the United States and toured throughout Europe and Southeast Asia in this capacity.  He also is an active educator as a professor of jazz bass and jazz ensemble at Manhattan School of Music, teaching graduate and undergraduate students.

Mr. Barron’s performances have led the Los Angeles Times to name him “one of the top jazz pianists in the world.” He was inducted in the American Jazz Hall of Fame in 2005, won a MAC Lifetime Achievement Award and has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards.

The duo’s latest CD, “Witchcraft,” was released in 2013 and reached No. 1 on the Jazz Week national radio charts. An informal reception follows the performance at which CDs will be available for purchase. A donation of $10 per person is suggested to help offset costs. Advance registration is strongly recommended due to the popularity of this jazz series.
