Hospitals put on a friendly face at Kids Fest

An opportunity to meet the caregivers from Norwalk, Danbury and New Milford Hospitals, and their affiliates in Western Connecticut Health Network, in an informal setting will take place at the WEBE-108 Kids Fest on Sunday, March 22. The 24th annual Kids Fest will be held from 10 to 4 at the Wilton High School Field House.
The Kids Fest is an exposition designed for young families with entertainment, education and businesses catering to parents and children. The health professionals will conduct blood pressure screenings, weights/heights, “Ask the Doctor,” and other surprises within its 16-by-20-foot booth. Physicians and hospital staff will be present to talk with the children and their parents and help familiarize youngsters with what to expect at a hospital.
Registered dietitians will discuss healthy eating for children and will also answer the frequent questions they receive from parents. Pediatric nurses will staff the Teddy Bear Clinic and provide information about health education programs available to children, adolescents and their parents.
Pediatricians, obstetricians and midwives, as well as other members of the medical staff, will be on hand to answer questions from children and their parents. Physician assistants will teach children about their bones, while providing helpful information to parents about preventing osteoporosis.
The paramedics and EMTs will provide information on the Heimlich maneuver, phoning 911 in an emergency, and preventing traumatic brain injury in children.  The ambulance will be stationed inside the field house for tours. In addition, informational literature and giveaways will be distributed to children who visit the Western Connecticut Health Network booth.
The Kids Fest will feature entertainment and throughout the day cartoon-type characters will mix with the crowd. In addition to Western Connecticut Health Network, businesses and services catering to young families will be present with information and giveaways.
