While most people are scurrying around fulfilling their holiday gift lists, some Wilton families are having trouble just making ends meet. That's when Wilton Social Services steps in.

"More kids are being helped at Christmas and we thought last year was a lot," Cathy Pierce, director of Social Services, said of the holiday program that invites elementary school-age children of families in need to submit a Christmas wish list.

"Families adopt them," Ms. Pierce said. "Some families take the whole list, some take a few items. We try to get all the wishes granted within reason.

"Older kids get gift certificates depending on their interest" from cash donations received, she said.

The program is in full swing, and anyone wishing to get involved or contribute may call Ms. Pierce at 203-834-6238.
