Holiday Book Sale returns to Wilton Library

Wilton Library’s annual Holiday Book Sale returns Wednesday, Nov. 30, offering a large array of gift-worthy books, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks for all ages.

“The Holiday Book Sale is one of four sales we have during the year and we have thousands and thousands of books that are donated annually,” said Jan MacEwen, a Wilton Library book sale volunteer of 15 years.

“For the Holiday Book Sale, we pull out everything that’s in pristine condition that would make a good gift — from every category you can imagine.”

Shrink-wrapped CDs, DVDs, books on CD, and physical books — everything at the sale is in excellent condition, MacEwen said.

“We have a huge collection of art books for sale, which are really popular during the holidays, and they’re all in beautiful shape,” she said.

“I think people who shop will be quite pleased with the condition of everything they find.”

Setting up the book sale is quite simple, said MacEwen.

“One day we set up the tables and shelving, and the next morning we fill them with all of our books,” she said, “but people have been pricing and preparing the books and putting them aside for the sale.”

MacEwen said there’s a never-ending flow of donations for the sale.

“We have three huge bins in back of the building, and those bins are almost always full because people in town and from other towns drive by and drop books off 24/7,” she said. “It’s become quite huge.”

The Holiday Book Sale will be open during regular library hours through Monday, Jan. 2, with all sales going to support the library.

“Anybody who comes to the library, of course, wanders through the sale,” said MacEwen, “so we have lots of traffic all month long.”

The library will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, as will the sale.
