High winds close roads, schools are closed
UPDATE 4:31 p.m.–
Metro-North reported that train service on the Danbury line had been out all day because of a mudslide on the embankment in Wilton between Wilton Center station and Norwalk Merritt 7 station. The mudslide was noticed at 10:30 p.m. Sunday. By 4 p.m., the tracks were cleared and declared safe and arrangements were made for trains to come back to the station from Norwalk, via the New Haven line, for the evening rush hour. However, Metro-North also indicated that service to New York City in the evening would be run by a bus, as it had during the day.
UPDATE: 3:02 p.m. — Eversource reports 1,572 power outages in Wilton, up from 251 this morning.
Police report roads that remain closed at this time are Kent Road, Chipmunk lane, Canterbury Lane, Hurlbutt Street, Linden Tree Road, and branches still down on Whipstick, High Ridge and Pelham Drive.
UPDATE: 12:24 p.m.. — After a morning of closed roads, Wilton Police announced the following roads have reopened after crews cleared trees and downed power lines: St. John, Hickory Hill, Spectacle Lane, Kellogg Drive, Carriage Road, Forest Lane, Signal Hill Road, Scriber Hill Road, Sugar Loaf, Malcolm Road, and Ridgefield Road.
Metro-North reports bus service is being provided on the Danbury branch line until further notice due to weather-related issues.
10:38 a.m. –Wilton schools were closed today, Oct. 30, due to the number of road closures. Tonight's parent meeting at Middlebrook will be rescheduled.
The YMCA called off morning classes because schools are closed, but afternoon classes are on as usual. The Wilton Library is open as usual.
5:55 a.m. — Wilton Public Schools will open on a two-hour delay this morning, Monday, Oct. 30.
Cider Mill will open at 9:40.
Wilton High School, Middlebrook and Our Lady of Fatima will open at 10:20.
Miller-Driscoll will open at 11:05
However, the district says due to road conditions there may be a need to close and an update will be given around 7 a.m.
Police advise the following roads are closed due to trees or wires down:
Ridgefield Road near # 732
Linden Tree by Carriage Road
Scribner Hill Road
Signal Hill Road
Long Meadow Road
St. Johns Road
Hickory Hill Road
Sugar Bush Court
There are numerous branches and debris on all roadways, and possible low-hanging wires. Police urge using caution while driving.
As of 5:30 this morning, Eversource reports 251 customer outages in Wilton, down from more than 500 last night. There are 150,200 outages across the state in areas served by Eversource.
Strong and gusty winds are expected today, with a wind advisory until 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Winds from the west of up to 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected.
Rain is likely early this morning, then a chance of showers between 10 and noon. It will be cloudy through mid morning, then clearing gradually, with a steady temperature around 54. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
