Fun things to do this weekend in Connecticut
Fresh from his two performances this week on MTV’s VMA awards, musician Shawn Mendes is among the artists who will spice up this weekend’s entertainment in Connecticut. The Canadian singer-songwriter will be at Mohegan Sun Arena Friday and Saturday, with special guest Alessia Cara.
Country star Brad Paisley is here, too; he rocks Hartford’s Xfinity Theatre on Thursday, which is also when Ambrosia plays Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den. Meanwhile, Vermont-based jam band, Twiddle, plays Stony Creek Breweryin Branford Thursday and Friday. And there’s more fun to be had Saturday and Sunday at the Blues & Views Festival in Westport, featuring artists such as Anders Osborne, not to mention great food, kids activities, craft beer, and more.
Another cool festival this weekend is the one folks refer to as “Odyssey,” on the grounds of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Orange. “Odyssey: A Greek Festival” offers everything from Greek cuisine and dancing to live music, and runs Friday through Monday.
Of course there’s theater and comedy, as well. Disney’s: “The Little Mermaid” runs Friday through Sunday at Westport Country Playhouse, and continues the following weekend. Comedian Aries Spears plays The Stress Factory in Bridgeport Thursday through Saturday, and Gabriel Iglesias brings his “Beyond the Fluffy World Tour” to Foxwoods Resort and Casino on Sunday.
There’s also the big Labor Day Parade in Newtown on Monday. One of the largest Labor Day parades in the state, this popular event is in its 58th year.
