Focus ’13 issues call for photographers

Photographers of all stripes — young, adult, professional, amateur — are invited to enter Focus ’13, the annual photography show sponsored by the Wilton Arts Council. The show will open with a reception for the community at Wilton Library on Friday, April 12, from 6 to 7:30, and will continue through April 29.

This is the 15th year for the show and photographers of all ages are encouraged to participate.

Photographs will be judged in three categories:

• adult (professional and amateur combined);

• high school students;

• youth photographers.

Photos may be dropped off at the library on Saturday, April 6, from 11 to 4, and on Sunday, April 7,  from 1:30 to 4.

Photos may be created digitally or through the use of traditional film. Photographers may alter the images digitally or through dark room procedures.

There are no limits as to maximum size but the frame must be at least 8 inches by 10 inches and “wired” (no loops or hooks are acceptable). Those photos not properly wired will be ineligible for hanging.

Photographers are allowed to submit up to two photos. For each photo entered in the exhibit, the fee is $5 for youths, $10 for high school students and Wilton Arts Council members, and $20 for non-members. Photographers are welcome to join the Wilton Arts Council at the time of drop-off.  Membership is $35 for family membership, $25 for individual membership, and $10 for seniors and students.

Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded for Best of Show (which is open to all); first through fifth places in the adult division; and first, second and third place in the high school and youth divisions.  Ribbons will also be presented for honorable mention in each of the divisions.

Photos will be for sale throughout the exhibit unless otherwise designated, and the library will receive a 20% commission on the sale price of each photograph sold.

Sponsors for Focus ’13  are Alice Snyder Real Estate in Wilton, Milford Photo in Milford, Photographic Solutions LLC in Norwalk (who is offering a discount on enlargement printing for Focus ‘13 entries), and Rockwell Art & Framing in Wilton, Westport, Fairfield, New Canaan, Ridgefield and Stamford (who is offering a discount on framing of photos for Focus ’13 entries).

Daryl Hawk, professional • photographer (adult and youth division);

• Dennis Hyde (high school division);
