Farmers' market opens with new offerings, new vendors

The Wilton Farmers’ Market, sponsored by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce opened June 5 on the grounds of the Wilton Historical Society at 224 Danbury Road with a dozen booths featuring  local farmers, crafters and artisans. Ambler Farm, Shultze’s Farm, Fresh Pastabilities, Carrot Top Kitchens, The Olive Oil Factory, The Sweetery, Victoria’s Wood Fired Pizza, Bistro du Soleil and Simply Delicious Catering are some of the participating vendors.

The market is open from 12:30 to 5 every Wednesday through Sept. 25, plus two dates in October. There are picnic tables so shoppers may enjoy their purchases, as well as entertainment and activities for children.

To reflect its fresh, natural and environmentally friendly feeling the market has a new logo this year created by Eduardo Zayas of Wilton. With more than 20 years of design and advertising experience in New York City, Mr. Zayas is focusing his talents closer to home and lending his support to local nonprofits such as the farmers’ market.

“The Wilton Farmers’ Market is just another example of how the chamber is encouraging people to “Shop Wilton” by bringing fresh local products to a convenient location on Route 7 in the beautiful setting afforded by the historical society, chamber president Peg Koellmer said. “Buying at the market promotes healthy eating habits and teaches children the value of farm-to-table food. We also want to support small business enterprises such as local farmers, artisans and crafters by providing a venue for them to sell their wares.  We hope Wilton residents will patronize the farmers’ market this season and enjoy all its new features.”

The market will also offers organizations such as the Northeast Organic Farmers Association and CT Clean Energy Options an opportunity to teach the community about eating locally, making nutritious, healthy food choices, and being environmentally responsible.

The market’s website,, includes details on dates, times, location (with map), parking information, 2013 vendors, seasonal menu planning and contact information.
