The candidates running for various offices are gearing up for the Tuesday, Nov. 6, election.

In order for voters to get the know the candidates, many debates and forums are scheduled throughout the region for those in contested races.

The following include candidates who will be on the ballot in Wilton.

Monday, Oct. 15

26th Senate District: Incumbent Toni Boucher (R) and challenger Carolanne Curry (D), Westport Town Hall, 7 p.m., co-sponsored by area LWVs.

143rd House District: Incumbent Gail Lavielle (R) and challenger Ted Hoffstatter (D), also at Westport Town Hall.

U.S. Senate: Linda McMahon (R) and Chris Murphy (D), hosted by The Day of New London, televised on MYTV9, 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 16

President: Incumbent Barack Obama (D) and challenger Mitt Romney (R) in town meeting format, including foreign and domestic policies, in Hempstead, N.Y., nationally televised, 9-10:30 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 18

U.S. Senate: Linda McMahon (R) and Chris Murphy (D), hosted by the Connecticut Broadcasters Association at the Hilton Hartford Hotel, 4-5 p.m. (check listings for broadcast times).

4th District: Incumbent Jim Himes (D) and challenger Steve Obsitnik (R), luncheon (11:30 a.m.) and debate at the Norwalk Inn and Conference Center in Norwalk, 1-2 p.m., sponsored by the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce in partnership with News 12 Connecticut, the Business Council of Fairfield County, and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council (members $50, nonmembers $75).

Monday, Oct. 22

President: Incumbent Barack Obama (D) and challenger Mitt Romney (R) talk foreign policy in Boca Raton, Fla., nationally televised, 9-10:30 p.m.

125th District: David Bedell (Green), Tom O'Dea (R) and Mark Robbins (D), New Canaan Town Hall, 7 p.m. New Canaan LWV. (This is an open seat; there is no incumbent.)

Wednesday, Oct. 24

143rd House District: Incumbent Gail Lavielle (R) and challenger Ted Hoffstatter (D), St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 208 Newtown Avenue, Norwalk, 7-8:30 p.m., co-sponsored by Wilton and Norwalk LWVs.

Sunday, Oct. 28

4th District: Incumbent Jim Himes (D) and challenger Steve Obsitnik (R) at the Clune Center at Wilton High School, Wilton, 4-5:30 p.m., co-sponsored by area LWVs.

Friday, Nov. 2

4th District: Incumbent Jim Himes (D) and challenger Steve Obsitnik (R) at the Bridgeport Holiday Inn on Main Street, 10-11 a.m., sponsored by AARP.
