On July 12, Danbury Branch service changes went into effect to accommodate Metro-North's testing of grade crossings. The Saturday service changes will also take place on July 19 and 26. On these days, the first three southbound and northbound trains will be replaced by buses: Departing Danbury: 7:37 a.m., 10:37 a.m., 1:37 p.m. Departing South Norwalk (to Danbury): 9:09 a.m., 12:07 p.m., 3:07 p.m. “Buses will not operate on the train schedule, but will make connection in South Norwalk,” the MTA stated. Wilton Station Bus service to New York from Wilton Station will take place: 8 a.m. 11 a.m. 2 p.m. Bus service from Wilton Station to Danbury will take place: 9:37 a.m. 12:37 p.m. 3:37 p.m. Cannondale Station Bus service to New York from Cannondale Station will take place: 7:51 a.m. 10:51 a.m. 1:51 p.m. Bus service from Cannondale Station to Danbury will take place: 9:46 a.m. 12:46 p.m. 3:46 p.m. Testing of the grade crossings are taking place after it was discovered earlier this year that Metro-North’s newly installed computerized train detection system, which controls the opening and closing of the crossings to motor vehicle traffic, caused crossing gates to activate with no trains approaching. This “unintended negative consequence” of a system designed for the allowance of increased train service, brought cars and pedestrian traffic to a halt in the Danbury Branch communities, according to a June 12 MTA update. Due to planned track and signal work, Metro-North warns commuters of possibly slower travel times on all lines during the weekends of July 12-13 and July 19-20.
