Music on the Hill celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with “Luck o’ the Irish,” a concert of Irish music performed by the Festival Chorus and Jubilate Ringers handbell choir on Sunday, March 15, at 3 p.m. in the Parish Hall at Wilton Episcopal and Presbyterian Church complex (WEPCO), 48 New Canaan Road.
The Festival Chorus will perform traditional Irish songs, including “Carrickfergus” and “’Tis the Last Rose of Summer,” as well as a wordless “Londonderry Air” arranged by Percy Grainger. Other selections include choral settings of the poetry of W.B. Yeats.
The Jubilate Ringers will perform Dr. Connell’s “Give Us a Dance Then,” a suite of Irish dances arranged for handbells, which the group premiered last March. The suite includes the jigs, reels, and waltzes of a traditional Irish ceili, or dance party, complete with bell effects evoking the bagpiper’s drone and dancers’ clogs.
Tickets are $20 in advance at musiconthehillCT.org; $25 at the door. Children and students are admitted free.
