Church coat drive is underway
From left, Marie Broderick, Kathy Scheller, and Carol Boehly sort donated coats and linens during the Wilton Congregational Church’s 53rd annual coat drive. In the past, 800 to 1,000 items have been donated and the church is hoping to reach that goal again this year. The drive continues today until 4 and until Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 5.
In addition to coats and linens, hats, scarves, mittens, gloves and other winter outerwear are welcome.
The recipients this year are Wilton Social Services, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Open Door Shelter and Person to Person. As in past years, the organizers coordinate with Wilton Social Services to find out what items and sizes are needed by families in town first. These are set aside before the rest of the donations are trucked to Bridgeport or Norwalk.
