Bridgeport amphitheater on target to begin hosting events this spring

The new amphitheater being built at the site of the old baseball stadium in the city’s South End is still on track for a spring 2021 opening, according to developer Howard Saffan.

He is aiming to host graduations in May and the first concerts in June.

On Monday a crane lowered a section of metal framing into place. The framework will support the massive fabric tent roof that will soon cover the amphitheater.

The venue’s bones are actually the minor-league baseball stadium shuttered in 2017 that for 20 years was home to the Bridgeport Bluefish.

Saffan’s initial goal was to open in 2019, but construction delays pushed that back and then COVID-19 struck.
