The new bridge on Huckleberry Hill Road, which replaces its century-old predecessor, is nearing completion and the road could reopen by winter, according to Mike Pastore, director of the New Canaan Public Works Department. Mr. Pastore reported this information to the New Canaan Town Council on Nov. 20.

Huckleberry Hill Road leads from Wilton into New Canaan. The bridge spans the Silvermine River just before it flows into Silvermine Pond.

“We were hoping to get it open for the winter, and it’s going to be pretty close,” Mr. Pastore told the council. “But it’s going to be open soon, and it will be open for the spring.”

Work began on the bridge over the summer and it has been closed during this time. There is a detour that directs drivers to Valley Road, Trails End Road and Route 106 (New Canaan Road).
