What a police dispatcher described as "a large bear — not a baby" was discovered at the Piersall Building on Center Street Tuesday evening, July 2.
There was Facebook chatter the bear was checking out the trash near Pinocchio Pizza, but when called at 7 p.m. the restaurant was busy and no one could offer comment. Other Facebook comments indicated people were staying inside the stores in the area.
The police dispatcher said when an officer arrived to investigate, the bear had already gone into the woods.
"We are asking people to don't go near the woods there," the dispatcher stressed. They expect the bear to go away on its own.
