NEW FAIRFIELD — After being postponed last month due to novel coronavirus concerns, the Parks and Recreation Department’s second annual Candlewood Lake Light Parade is now canceled.

The town had to cancel the illuminated boat parade after the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection revoked its permit for the event due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns, according to the New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department.

“We know this is disappointing for everyone involved, but it is important to keep everyone safe at this time,” the department posted on its Facebook page Friday.

About 30 boats, decked out in lights and decorations, participated in last year’s first-ever Candlewood Light Parade.

State officials put some restrictions in place at Candlewood Lake, including temporarily closing the Lattins Cove boat launch, following an uptick of coronavirus cases in the Danbury area and reports of large gatherings on the lake.
