Woodcock Nature Center has opened registration for its fall Where the Wild Things Run 5K and Family Fun Run, planned for Sunday, Oct. 18.The course, which is 90% trails, takes participants on a path through the nature center.\u00a0 Runners, joggers, and walkers are welcome, but the course is not stroller-friendly. The Fun Run course is appropriate for all ages and parents are welcome to accompany children.Registration will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., with the fun run beginning at 8:30. The 5K race\/walk steps off at 9.Registration fees are $25 in advance, $30 the day of the race. For runners 13 and under the fee is $15. Entry to the fun run is $10. T-shirts will be given to the first 200 participants.Woodcock Nature Center encompasses 149 acres of state-protected land. There is a pond, wetlands and three miles of publicly accessible woodland trails.The nature center is home to snakes, frogs, lizards and injured birds of prey. Visitors to the preserve have the opportunity to see many forms of aquatic life and a wide variety of birds. Trails pass by old stone walls, stands of old maple, beeh, oak and hickory trees, and a wetland area.Throughout the year the nature center offers educational programs, camps, and special events.The entry is at 56 Deer Run Road. The trails and grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk. The nature center is open when staff is on site.
