The Wilton Conservation Commission invites all citizens to usher in the spring season by participating in the annual Townwide Community Cleanup on Saturday, April 5, from 9 to noon. “As we enjoy the early spring weather this time of year, unsightly litter that has blown or been otherwise improperly disposed detracts from the clean renewal that spring brings,” said Mike Conklin of the town’s Department of Environmental Affairs. “Consequently, now is the perfect time for the cleanup because the leaves are gone from the trees and bushes, and the litter along the roads and paths is visible.” The commission welcomes participation from individuals and organizations. Residents can either pick up litter in their own neighborhoods, or meet up with volunteers at the Town Green (the gazebo opposite Village Market) and target areas that have been noted as needing a cleanup. Wilton’s largest watercourse, the Norwalk River, is always in need of attention. Work gloves, garbage bags and a Dumpster will be available at the gazebo. Pinocchio’s Pizza is supporting the cleanup effort by offering a free slice of cheese pizza for all volunteers (vouchers at the gazebo). Anyone interested in volunteering or organizing a group of volunteers can call the 203-563-0180 for further information or stop by the Town Green at 9 on Saturday, April 5.
