Woodcock Nature Center plans for wreath festival

Woodcock Nature Center has begun taking group reservation requests for its popular Wreath Festival Ladies’ Nights which will run Tuesday through Friday Dec. 2–5 and Dec. 9–12, with two sessions each night at 6:30-8:15 and 8:30-10:15. Proceeds from this event support the nature center’s mission of environmental education and “Raising Healthy Children Today, For a Healthy Environment Tomorrow.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their own snacks to enjoy while decorating or while relaxing in front of the fireplace. Using an array of natural dried flowers, grasses, nuts, fruits, berries and cones, each will leave with a balsam fir holiday wreath.

The cost is $55 and includes an 18-inch balsam wreath and all decorating materials. Pre-registration is required and is not refundable.

General admission will begin online Saturday, Nov. 8, however, groups may reserve a date and time prior to open registration via a lottery process. Requests must be received no later than Sunday, Oct. 26.

Visit woodcocknaturecenter.org or call 203-762-7280 for specific instructions on how to request a group reservation.

 Family days

Family Wreath Making Days will be Saturday, Dec. 6 and 13 from noon to 4. The cost is $40 per wreath with an additional $10 discount on the first wreath for any mother who is also coming to Ladies’ Night. No reservation required, but large groups are asked to call ahead so space and materials can be provided. There will be hot cocoa served.

The nature center welcomes donations of dried materials for the wreath festival, including hydrangea heads, black-eyed Susan stems, boxwood clippings, holly sprigs, milkweed pods and sedum heads. Pine cones, acorns, hickory nuts and locust pods are also needed. Donations may be dropped off at the nature center staff house. All materials should be dry.

Woodcock Nature Center is at 56 Deer Run Road.
