Although early December is still autumn, the final month of the year ushers in the winter holidays. To celebrate, the Chamber of Commerce and Town of Wilton will present a Winter and Holiday Stroll on Friday, Dec. 1, beginning at 5:30 on the town green.

While the star of the show is always Santa, there will be a host of other activities to enjoy as well.

Setting the atmosphere on the green will be music by the Wilton High School band and carolers from Sarah Lee Michaels’ The Voice Studio. Michaels estimates they will begin around 4:30. The carolers, ranging in age from 7 to 19, will sing sacred, traditional, and popular carols at the green, and then will stroll through town stopping here and there to perform in front of some of the shops.

“They are all just fantastic kids,” Michaels said of the students, many of whom perform in local productions with the Wilton Children’s Theater or high school.

Santa Claus arrives at 5:30 and with First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice will kick off the holiday season with the lighting of the tree on the town green. Santa will then take the place of honor in the gazebo and invite children of all ages to share their holiday wishes. He’ll have a special treat for each child.

Wilton’s retailers, restaurants and businesses will join in the festivities as well, inviting folks to stroll through town, shop, and enjoy their hospitality. The Chamber of Commerce will hand out certificates to attendees to present to participating businesses to receive holiday shopping specials throughout the weekend. A number of businesses have signed up to participate including Open House Gift Shop, B-Chic, Coldwell Banker, Wilton Hardware, and Halstead Property.

The Economic Development Commission will once again host a Campfire and Marshmallow Roast at Schenck’s Island. Marshmallows will be provided but participants should bring their own roasting stick. The fire will be at full roar by 6:30 and will run until 8.

Those looking for a little warmth and rest may stop in at Wilton Library to enjoy refreshments and the cozy fireplace. The Holiday Book Sale and Unhung Heroes art exhibition will offer opportunities for holiday gift giving.

The Winter and Holiday Stroll is a rain or shine event. In the event of inclement weather, Santa will be at Wilton Library from 5:30 to 7:30.
