Wilton League of Women Voters welcomes student speakers

The Wilton League of Women Voters welcomes four student speakers — Isabella Segall, founder/director of Connecticut Teens Against Gun Violence; Grace Bracken, Wilton High School Women’s Activism Club; and Elizabeth Yoon and Vignesh Subramanian, members of the school’s Model Congress — at the league’s monthly meeting on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 9:30, at Comstock Community Center, 180 School Road. The meeting is free and open to all league members and the general public. The program begins with a short business meeting, with light refreshments, followed by the students’ talk.

Following the mass shooting in Parkland, Fla., Isabella was a featured speaker at two major events in Connecticut,  the March for Our Lives at the state Capitol and The Road to Change Tour in Newtown this past summer. The marches attracted thousands of participants, including survivors of the Parkland shooting.

Grace was the 2018 Wilton High School winner of the League of Women Voters Edna Jones Memorial Book Award and is a board member of Connecticut Teens Against Gun Violence. Elizabeth and Vignesh, as members of the Model Congress, volunteered at the league’s recent regional debates before the November election.

They will discuss their experiences in organizing and mobilizing young people to become involved in the democratic process. Contact wiltonlwv@gmail.com for more information.
