Stay at Home in Wilton officers to address Kiwanis Club

Stay at Home in Wilton President Barbara Quincy and Vice President Ann Newton will speak at  Wednesday's Kiwanis luncheon, describing the many activities of the six-year-old organization dedicated to helping Wilton seniors remain in their homes.

Ann Newton moved to Wilton in March 1977, when her children were 10 and 7. Both graduated from Wilton High School. She has been a member of the Wilton Congregational Church since then, singing in the choir and participating in many committees over the years.  She  was a volunteer in the Wilton Schools until returning to the workforce in 1980.

She worked for a steel trading company in Wilton from 1980 until 1998. She and her husband Jim have been self-employed since then. She has also been active with Minks to Sinks and the Encore Club and has served on the board of Stay at Home since its beginning.

Barbara Quincy moved to Wilton 53 years ago with two children and a large black poodle. There was no Newcomers Club then, but the  League of Woman Voters offered babysitting, so she joined. That was the start of a long involvement in community affairs, continuing at present as a member in good standing of the Tree Committee.

Quincy has been active in the community: Wilton’s P&Z representative to Southwest Regional Planning Agency (SWRPA) 1977-1981; Planning & Zoning Commission (two years as chairman, 1981-89); Inland Wetlands Commission (2003-2003); World Affairs Forum (Stamford) intern 2009; and Elder and Deacon at Wilton Presbyterian Church.  She worked at Wilton Center Travel for 25 years, retiring in 2006.

Kiwanis meets every Wednesday for lunch at the Episcopal Presbyterian complex on New Canaan Road from noon to 1:30.  For reservations ($15) or more information call Bud Taylor at 203-354-0208.
