The Old Farmer's Almanac says the northern U.S. will experience a colder and snowier winter than normal. Not everyone will have the means to stay warm, relying on charitable organizations for help.
Wilton Congregational Church will conduct its annual coat drive from Sunday, Nov. 1 through Tuesday, Nov. 3, which is Election Day. This is the 51st year the church is holding the drive.
The recipients this year are Wilton Social Services, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Open Door Shelter and Person to Person. As in past years, the organizers coordinate with Wilton Social Services to find out what items and sizes are needed by families in town first. These are set aside before the rest of the donations are trucked to Bridgeport.
Volunteers will sort, and in many cases wash and mend, the donated coats.
The collection hours are:
Sunday, Nov. 1 — 11-2;
Monday, Nov. 2 — 8-4;
Tuesday, Nov. 3 — 8-4.
