Sensible Wilton collects signatures today

Representatives from Sensible Wilton expect to be at Wilton’s polling places today, collecting signatures on a petition to call for a Special Town Meeting to consider a revote of the Miller-Driscoll building renovation project.

Wilton’s polling places are the Clune Center at Wilton High School and the gyms at Cider Mill and Middlebrook schools.

The project passed by 27 votes during a Special Town Meeting and adjourned vote in September. Members of Sensible Wilton, a citizens’ group, say town officials improperly promoted the project to voters and there was insufficient discussion and information given to voters on the project for them to make an informed decision.

Wilton’s town attorney, Ken Bernhard, says the town charter does not give citizens’ groups like Sensible Wilton the ability to call a Special Town Meeting for the purpose of a bonding referendum.
