State Rep. John Shaban (R-135) is hosting a panel on Connecticut’s opioid addiction issue Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Weston Town Hall, 56 Norfield Road.

Opioids are medications that relieve pain, but in recent years their abuse has become a nationwide problem leading to many overdoses. Opioids include codeine, oxycodone, morphine and heroin.

The panelists for the event are Weston First Selectman Nina Daniel, Weston Police Chief John Troxell, Easton First Selectman Adam Dunsby, Easton Police Chief Tim Shaw, Redding First Selectman Julia Pemberton, Redding Police Chief Douglas Fuchs, WestCOG associate planner Elizabeth Esposito and Mid-Fairfield substance abuse coalition director Giovanna Pisani.

The panel will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8 p.m.

The public is invited to hear the panelists will discuss opioid addiction issues in the area.

Shaban is challenging Congressman Jim Himes for the 4th Congressional District in the upcoming November election.
