Forum examines proposed constitutional amendment

A free, public forum on the constitutional amendment that will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot across the state will take place Monday, Sept. 15, 7-8:30 p.m., at the Unitarian Church in Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Road. Andrew Schneider, executive director of the ACLU of Connecticut, will be the guest speaker.

The event is sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut, the League of Women Voters and Common Cause.

The proposed amendment to the Connecticut Constitution would change language that prohibits early voting and allows absentee voting only under narrowly defined “excuses.” The General Assembly passed resolutions to place the question on the ballot. If voters approve the change, the legislature can then consider moving toward some form of early voting or no-excuses absentee voting.
