Sean Patrick Bowley
SPB's Audibles Week 2

Thursday, Sept. 15

CCC

  • Glastonbury (1-0) at East Hartford (0-1), 6:30 p.m. — It took Glastonbury half of last year to reach where it is now.
  • Newington (0-1) at Conard (0-1), 6:30 p.m. — Life in CCC Tier I isn't too rosy, is it now?
  • Plainville (0-1) at Bloomfield (1-0), 7 p.m. —  With starting QB Bakaysa done for the year, Bloomfield was the last thing Plainville needed.

ECC

  • New London (0-1) at Fitch (1-0), 6:30 p.m. — Whalers limp into Groton with tiny Danny Shabans spinning around their collective heads.

NVL

  • Watertown (0-1) at Holy Cross (1-0), 6:30 p.m. — Ligi and the Crusaders should be licking their chops after Watertown surrendered 50 to Crosby.

PEQUOT

  • Rockville (1-0) at SMSA (1-0), 6:30 p.m. — Rockville well aware how dangerous SMSA is. The Class runners up got shut out, 21-0, last year.

Friday, Sept. 16

CCC

  • Maloney (1-0) at Simsbury (0-1), 6:30 p.m. — Regardless of this result, Simsbury just glad it won't face another Single Wing this year.
  • Hall (0-1) at Southington (1-0), 7 p.m. — Cardillo and the Blue Knights have a score to settle from last year's 27-19 loss.
  • Bristol Central (0-1) at South Windsor (1-0), 4:15 p.m. — Did anybody check under the bleachers for any loose Rosas, BC?
  • Middletown (0-1) at Enfield (0-0), 6 p.m. — Enfield will be thankful to get a full game in after last week's cut short.
  • Windsor (0-1) at New Britain (1-0), 6:30 p.m. — This game A) should happen much more often than every 10 years or whatever; B) will be a bellwether for the rest of the CCC
  • Avon (0-1) at Farmington (0-1), 6 p.m. — Farmington hasn't won in 12-consecutive games. This rivalry would be a great place to start again.
  • Hartford Public (1-0) at East Catholic (1-0), 6:30 p.m. — First of two intriguing, early battle of unbeaten CCC Tier 4 teams tonight.
  • Tolland (1-0) at Lewis Mills (1-0), 6:30 p.m. — This is the other one.
  • Bristol Eastern (0-1) at Platt (0-1), 6:30 p.m. — Which team best learned from its mistakes from last week?
  • Wethersfield (1-0) at Manchester (1-0), 6:30 p.m. — Wethersfield won 34-18 last year. Stakes are much higher now, though.

CTC

  • Cheney Tech (1-0) at VGW Techs (0-1), 6 p.m. — Cheney's defense would love another shutout.
  • O'Brien (0-1) at Quinebaug (1-0), 6 p.m. — Hartford Week 1, Quiet Corner Week 2. EOB's gas budget getting an early workout.

ECC

  • Bacon Academy (0-1) at Montville (0-1), 6 p.m. -- Good matchup for two programs that need a break.
  • Woodstock Academy (0-0) at Weaver (0-1), 6 p.m. -- Scary moment last week for Centaurs. Here's hoping it's all about about football now.
  • Killingly (1-0) at NFA (0-1), 6:30 p.m. -- NFA used to own this game. No longer. K-Town's won two of the last three, including 48-0 last year.
  • Ledyard (1-0) at Griswold/Wheeler (1-0), 6:30 p.m. -- James Green still plays for Ledyard.
  • Waterford (0-1) at Stonington (0-1), 6:30 p.m. — A needed reprieve from the Alliance for both.
  • Windham (1-0) at East Lyme (0-1) 6:30 p.m. — A tough game against a competitive ECC D1 rival while down two starters? Whippets will be fine.

FCIAC

  • New Canaan (1-0) at McMahon (0-1), 7 p.m. — Injuries? What injuries? Rams look pretty healthy to us.
  • Norwalk (0-1) at Warde (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Bears will need more than the combined Tucci/Ireland knowhow.
  • Wilton (1-0) at Ludlowe (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Who thought this game would be a battle of unbeatens?
  • Greenwich (1-0) at Ridgefield (0-1), 7 p.m. -- Cardinals will be judged on this result more than Ridgefield will.
  • Stamford (1-0) at Danbury (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Great start for Donny's Knights. Are they a match for Augie's Hatters?

NVL

  • Crosby (1-0) at St.Paul (0-1), 7 p.m. -- So last week, Crosby looked good...
  • Oxford (0-1) at Wilby (1-0), 7 p.m. -- ...Wilby looked *real* good...
  • WCA (1-0) at Derby (0-1), 7 p.m. -- ...and WCA looked great. The 'Bury is going 3-0 tonight, isn't it?
  • Wolcott (0-1) at Torrington (0-1), 7 p.m. -- This is supposed to be the "good" NVL division.
  • Seymour (1-0) at Naugatuck (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Remember kids, style points aren't added to the final score.
  • Woodland (1-0) at Ansonia (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Word is Woodland's much better. But Ansonia is Ansonia.

PEQUOT

  • Coginchaug/Hale Ray/East Hampton (1-0) at Valley Regional/Old Lyme, 6:30 p.m. -- Seems like everybody forgot about Valley, huh?
  • Cromwell/Portland (1-0) at Capital Prep/Achievement First (1-0), 6:30 p.m. -- Is Cap Prep going to be a Pequot Playa? Let's find out...
  • H-K (1-0) at Morgan (0-1), 6:30 p.m. -- Cougs will be keeping an eye on what's happening in Hartford. C/P is next.
  • OSW (0-1) at North Branford (0-1), 6:30 p.m. -- Our faith in the senior-laden T-Birds is a bit shaken, frankly...
  • Ellington (1-0) at Windsor Locks/Suffield/East Granby (0-1), 6:30 p.m. -- Ellington's season won't really begin for another two weeks.
  • Granby/Canton (0-1) at Stafford/Somers/East Windsor (1-0), 6:30 p.m. -- Pequot's got a bunch of big games going down tonight.

SCC

  • Hand (1-0) at Shelton (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Nothing like a good ol' fashioned, top-notch SCC D1 showdown.
  • Fairfield Prep (0-1) at Xavier (0-1), 7 p.m. -- If God really had an offense, He'd share it here.
  • North Haven (1-0) at Notre Dame-West Haven (0-1), 7 p.m. -- This is Big Trouble in little West Haven.
  • Harding (0-1) at Sheehan (0-1), 6:30 p.m. -- Sheehan's got more to worry about than playoff possibilities.
  • Amity (1-0) at West Haven (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Westies looked like the Westies of old, didn't they? Brute, force.
  • Wilbur Cross (0-1) at Hamden (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Hamden only won this rivalry game 14-0 last year, remember.
  • Law (1-0) at Bassick (0-1), 6 p.m. -- Seems like smooth sailing for Law for a few more weeks.]
  • Guilford (0-1) at Branford (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Remember, the Grizzlies buried playoff-bound Branford last year.
  • Lyman Hall (1-0) at Foran (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Safe to say Foran, which beat Weston in 2OTs, is the more battle-tested here.
  • Cheshire (1-0) at Hillhouse (0-1), 6 p.m. -- Are we underrating Cheshire? It feels like we're underrating Cheshire.

SWC

  • New Fairfield (1-0) at Pomperaug (0-1), 6:30 p.m. -- We're definitely underrating NF QB Justin McCormick.
  • Bunnell (1-0) at Weston (0-1), 7 p.m. -- Dawgs' Michael Trovarelli has our (and Weston's) strict attention now.
  • Notre Dame-Fairfield (1-0) at Masuk (0-1), 7 p.m. -- ND hasn't won this game since Nicky Pellegrino went off in '05.
  • New Milford (0-1) at Brookfield (1-0), 7 p.m. -- Green Wave started with Cheshire, while Brookfield began with Abbott Tech/Immaculate.
  • Newtown (0-1) at Bethel (0-1), 7 p.m. -- Newtown's Haddick might be poised for a big night.
  • Stratford (1-0) at Barlow (1-0), 7 p.m. -- It's a battle of playmakers, Stratford's Pena v. Barlow's Shaban.

OTHERS

  • East Haven (0-1) at E.O. Smith (0-1), 6 p.m. -- Great chance the winner to collect more than a few victories over the next few weeks.

Saturday, Sept. 17

CCC

  • Berlin (1-0) at RHAM (1-0), 1 p.m. -- It could be Grimm (as in versatile Berlin senior Josh) for RHAM.
  • Rocky Hill (0-1) at Northwest Catholic (0-1), 10:30 a.m. -- Rocky Hill at least showed you something in its opening loss.

CTC

  • Wilcox/Kaynor (0-1) at Prince (1-0), 10 a.m. -- Pitching was great for Prince Tech in its 8-2 win over O'Brien last week.
  • Thames River (0-0) at Bullard/Kolbe (1-0), Noon -- And so it begins: The CTC's Outlow Era.
  • Platt Tech (0-1) at ATI (0-1), 1 p.m. -- ATI did reasonably well against Brookfield in its non-CTC opener.

FCIAC

  • Bridgeport Central at Darien, 1:30 p.m. -- There was a time, not too long ago, that the Hilltoppers could beat these teams.
  • Staples (1-0) at St. Joseph (1-0), 1:30 p.m. -- What kind of an encore do the Hogs have for us?
  • Trumbull (1-0) at Westhill (0-1), 2:30 p.m. -- Corbin who???

NVL

  • Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic (0-1) at Kennedy (0-1), 10 a.m. -- To their credit, the Yellowjackets showed up in their NVL opener.

PEQUOT

  • Coventry Co-Op (0-1) at CREC, 11 a.m. -- CREC showed up against Stafford. That can't bode well for the rest of the Uncas.
