Connecticut high school boys soccer Week 5 top performers, Week 6 games to watch


Lucas Almeida, Hall: The junior striker scored eight goals last week with four each against East Catholic and Bristol Central. He also added two assists and he won two penalty kicks for the team.

Sam Montalto, Stonington: Montalto stayed hot with back-to-back hat tricks while also dishing out three assists in wins over Windham and Old Lyme.

Justin Hess, Guilford: The junior keeper made 10 saves, three in spectacular fashion, helping Guilford earn a 0-0 tie with rival Hand.

Jake Gonski, Newtown: Gonski scored two goals against New Milford and four against Kolbe Cathedral.

Jake Hugh-Jones, Greenwich: Hugh-Jones scored twice as Greenwich came from behind to knock off Darien 3-1.

Caden Gallagher, Farmington: The senior tallied a hat trick, scoring all the goals in the 3-0 win over CCC rival Glastonbury.

Max Weiss, Weston: The senior went off with four goals as part of a 5-1 win over New Fairfield, running the Trojans’ winning streak to seven straight.

Luciano Paoletta, Fairfield Prep: Paoletta scored the game-winner for Prep against in a 2-1 victory over Guilford.

Donovan Speer, Trumbull: Speer scored two goals as the Eagles defeated Stamford 4-0.

Aiden King, Law: King scored three goals last week, helping Law remain unbeaten at 10-0-0.

Carson Rivoira, Bristol Central: Rivoira had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Glastonbury and scored two goals in beating Bristol Eastern 4-1.


No. 10 Bethel at Weston, Tuesday, 7 p.m.: Neither team has lost in the SWC. A top-four seed, if not the top seed, in the SWC tournament could be at stake under the lights in Weston.

No. 10 Woodland at No. 4 Holy Cross, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.: The last two unbeaten teams in the NVL, both ranked in the CSCA Class M/S Poll, meet up under the lights at Municipal Stadium.

No. 6 Nonnewaug at Northwestern, Thursday, 3:45 p.m.: Northwestern’s only loss this year was 2-1 to Nonnewaug. This time the game shifts to Northwestern’s home field.

Farmington at No. 4 Wethersfield, Thursday, 6 p.m.: Wethersfield has conceded six goals in nine games while Farmington has given up six in eight games. Wethersfield (7-0-2) is one of four teams still unbeaten in Class L.

Notre Dame-West Haven at No. 1 Xavier, Friday, 6:30 p.m.: Xavier scored as many goals (3) the last time it played NDWH, than the Falcons have given up all season. Xavier is the No. 1 team in CSCA Class L/LL Poll and one of two undefeated teams in Class LL.

Ridgefield at No. 7 Darien, Friday, 7 p.m.: Ridgefield has not lost since opening day and just handed Norwalk its first loss. A home game in the FCIAC playoffs is surely on the line as the teams close out the second-to-last week of the regular season.
