The crowd has spoken. After 732 votes were cast in our unofficial "Pizza or lobster rolls: What should Connecticut's state food be?" poll, the Hearst Connecticut Media audience has chosen pizza as the true contender for the official state food of Connecticut. Though polling went back and forth throughout the past week, pizza pulled away from lobster rolls with a final vote tally of 409-323. The win for pizza comes after an ongoing\u00a0 culinary war brewing in the tri-state area. The controversy started after two New Haven legislators introduced a bill for the 2021 session that would make pizza the official state food of Connecticut. Since then, voices from New Jersey and New York, including Gov. Phil Murphy and late-night host Stephen Colbert, have taken jabs at Connecticut for attempting to establish pizza dominance in the tri-state area. The bill is currently one of more than 2000 that have been introduced for the ongoing legislative session, which is expected to last until June. As for now, there is no telling what will happen should the Nutmeg State adopt pizza as its official food.
