Pepe's Pizzeria introduces new rustic mushroom pie

The end of summer means the close of fresh tomato pie season at Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, but there's a new fall seasonal pie joining the menu.

The limited-time Rustic Mushroom Pizza is now on the menu at all locations, featuring roasted mushrooms, mozzarella, ricotta, Italian seasonings, garlic, grated Pecorino Romano cheese and olive oil. It’s available in small, medium and large sizes, ranging from $12.50, to $25.50.

Pepe's is planning another upcoming location in greater Washington, D.C., as the New Haven-based legacy restaurant continues its expansion beyond Connecticut. An affiliate of the company signed a lease for a new pizzeria in Alexandria, Va. at the Alexandria Commons shopping center, the Washington Business Journal reported. Pepe's is also opening a Bethesda, Md. location in the Westfield Montgomery mall.

The Washington-area locations will be the first Pepe's restaurants outside of the Northeast. The famed pizzeria, which opened in 1925, has expanded across Connecticut to open outposts in Danbury, Fairfield, Manchester, Waterbury, West Hartford and Mohegan Sun. Out of state, there are Pepe's pizzerias in Yonkers, N.Y., Warwick, R.I. and three in Massachusetts: Burlington, Chestnut Hill and Watertown.

All of Pepe’s restaurants are open for dine-in, takeout and delivery.
