Two upcoming Valentines activities with the Wilton Library are a valentine craft kits event on Thursday, Feb. 10, and on Friday, Feb. 11, and a Valentine’s Day childrens’ crafts event on the Valentine’s Day holiday, on Monday, Feb. 14, with the Wilton Historical Society starting it off in the town on Saturday, Feb. 5, with a Valentine’s Day cardmaking workshop for children.

Popular guest lecturer Judson Scruton is returning to the Wilton Library to continue a four week literature seminar. Scruton will take readers through selected works by the poet Jorie Graham. “Jorie Graham: Poetry as contagious ceremony that might save the world,” will take place on Thursdays, Feb. 10, and Feb. 17, from 10:30 until noon. Graham has been called by the Poetry Foundation, one of the most celebrated poets of the U.S. post-war generation. Judson Scruton M.A., The John Hopkins University, The Writing Seminars, specializing in poetry) has taught creative writing, and literature at preparatory schools, and universities. Valentine craft kits
People will be able to make a heartfelt, and homemade Valentine for the special people in their lives, with some help from the library’s teen department. On Thursday, Feb. 10, and Friday, Feb. 11, people in sixth grade to the 12th grade, can pick up grab-and-go valentine craft kits. Each kit will include enough material to make three valentines using cardstock material, and pre-cut cricut shapes. The people are welcome to use craft supplies that is available in the teen room of the Wilton lLbrary. The supplies are markers, glue, scissors, or take the people will be able to take the kit for use in their home. The kits will be available on a first come, first served basis in the Teen Room during library operating hours.
Valentine’s Day childrens’ crafts
On Valentine's Day, Monday, Feb. 14, children in kindergarten through the second grade, can join the library on Zoom to make “Valentine's Day Crafts” from 4:15 to 5 p.m. The children will learn how to create unfolding Valentines, classic hearts, with doilies, and more. Registration is required. A Zoom invitation link will be sent by the day of the program. A separate email will be sent out to let participants know when they can pick up craft supply kits. Zoom poetry discussion
“Poetry Discussion with Janet Krauss: The Poetry of Mark Doty” takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 10:30 a.m. to noon via Zoom. Krauss will lead a discussion of a selection of poems by Mark Doty, who is recognized as a major American poet at the end of the 1990s. A readings packet will be emailed to registrants in advance. Ridding of cable
Unhappy cable subscribers can learn how to “Cut the Cord” in this Zoom presentation on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In the seminar, consumer rights advocate, and tech writer James Gifford focuses on help cable television customers break the cable service cycle, and gain lower costs, greater control, and a vastly expanded selection of entertainment, and communication choices. Attendees will learn how to rid of a cable service agreement, find, and negotiate the best internet, and broadband access deal, and start with streaming services for a vast range of entertainment options., many of which are free. Photography and storytelling
All photographers are invited to a special Zoom workshop “Photography and Self-Discovery” on Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Veteran photographer, and educator Laurie Klein will teach participants how to capture personal stories, and explore their creativity using their smart phone, or camera, creating special memories, and legacies. Make a mouse pad
People in the sixth grade to the 12th grade, can learn how to make their own mouse pads in “DIY Mouse Pad Craft for Teens” on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 4 to 5 p.m. on Zoom. All supplies will be provided, and teens can pick them up in the teen department then meet on Zoom to learn how to make the mouse pads. Supplies are limited. Registration is required. All participants will receive information about how to pick up their craft bag at the teen department of the Wilton Library, the week before the meeting.
