Get out and explore CT with free and discounted programs on Open House Day

Looking for something to do this weekend? Across the state of Connecticut, more than 100 tourism attractions ranging from museums, nature centers, vineyards and arts venues are participating in Connecticut Open House Day on June 12.

In celebration of Connecticut Open House Day, venues across the state are welcoming visitors back to their locations with free or reduced admission or special offers for in-person and virtual guests.

Free events

Participate in the Citizen Scientist iNaturalist Outdoor Program at 10 a.m. or the Storytime & Scavenger Hunt at 11 a.m. at the Connecticut Audubon Deer Pond Farm in Sherman. Register for the programs online. Aquila’s Nest Vineyards in Newtown will be offering a free wine tour at 12, 2, 4, and 6 p.m. and Charter Oak Brewery and Taproom in Danbury will be offering tours at the brewery and will be open 1-10 p.m.

Looking to see some art for free? The Fairfield and History Center, New Britain Museum of American Art, Lyman Allyn Art Museum and MoCA Westport are some of the art museums offering free admission.

Guests can register for a free tour of the Butler-McCook House & Garden in Hartford and a guided tour of the Connecticut Historical Society.

Register to take a free behind the scenes tour of the Palace Theatre in Waterbury from 2-3:30 p.m. or take a free tour of the Huguenot House Museum from 1-4 p.m. Closed-toe shoes will be needed if you participate in the free tours at Old New-Gate Prison & Copper Mine in East Granby.

Are animals a little more your speed? The Hungerford Nature Center in Kensington is offering free admission to meet their critters and H.O.R.S.E. of Connecticut will be offering free farm tours from 12-3 p.m. You can even have an up close and personal experience with the alpacas at Chakana Sky Alpacas in Chester for free.

Discounted admission

The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield will offer half-price admission to their exhibits; timed tickets can be purchased on their website. The American Clock & Watch Museum in Bristol will have a reduced-entry fee and programs for all ages throughout the day. The Connecticut Trolley Museum in East Windsor will offer half-price admission from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the KidsPlay Children’s Museum will also offer half-price admission. Avia Flight Academy in Stratford will offer a discounted one-hour flying experience that includes a ground lesson and 30 minutes of flight. Attendees will pay a $129 special rate and receive a certificate and pilot logbook.

Extras

The Rowayton Arts Center will have extended hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for visitors to visit their new show “In the City.” Patrons who visit the Danbury Library can receive a free swag bag. The Sterling House Community Center will offer home tours and merchandise giveaways and Connecticut’s Old State House will offer games, scavenger hunts, a music performance and a walking tour of the site.
